Sophia Xenodochidou – von Rotz was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she studied music (piano, harmony and music education) at the Music College of Thessaloniki. She worked sixteen years as music teacher at different public schools in Greece developing her own method of teaching children by combining different music didactic concepts.
She currently lives and works in Lucerne, Switzerland, where she gives private piano lessons. She also teaches music to the students of the Greek schools of Lucerne and Zurich with the purpose that the children learn to know and love the greek culture through the wonderful traditional songs of Greece.
As a pianist she has performed at various cultural events in Greece and Switzerland. Her repertoire outside the pieces of the classical period includes mainly the works of Manos Xadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis, the two most prominent contemporary Greek composers.
Musical pieces, such as “with the first drop of rain”, “o love you”, “ta lianotraghouda”, “away in the misty river”, “Eros, you God of love” belong to “Magnus Eroticus”, the most impressive work of Manos Xadjidakis. Magnus Eroticus, which stands out as a masterpiece in the field of popular songs, is also a lesson in character, truth and Magic.
